the magic shop – McKinney Texas

July 14, 2010

I went to McKinney Texas last Saturday evening to attend the Garret Art Gallery exhibit and reception for our SWS Plein Air paintings and spotted this scene at the Magic Shop around the corner. This is a 14″ x 14″ watercolor on 140# Arches cold press paper. I am always impressed with shadows and light, which I found in this scene.

This painting was produced Plein Air during the McKinney SWS paint out. The morning was cool and raining, a storm pasted through. I set up on the corner across from spoons. Michael Borne painted a similar scene along side me.Painting   “Spoons “

“with attitude” – Lake Fork Crane

July 4, 2010

This is a scene in our favorite fishing cove on Lake Fork. I was fishing with my son last Friday afternoon when this snow-white crane landed on a fence near us. He was screaming wanting us to leave. I painted this in my studio from a photo I took. I used Aureolin Yellow, Dragons Blood, Ultra-Marine Blue and Burnt Siena. The painting is on Arches 140 lb cold press paper 16″x20″
