SWS Fall Paint-Out in Mineola Texas
Thirty two people showed up, including nineteen painters.  Some arrived Friday morning to get an early start.  That evening we gathered at Holly Lake Ranch for pulled pork and ribs with home made pie for desert.  Some of us warmed ourselves in front of a chiminea on the deck and watched a crescent moon sink behind tall pines.  Others enjoyed the cozy comfort of the  cabin that tastefully reflects the hospitality of its owners.

Saturday dawned cloudy and cool, as artists spread out all over town.  Some painted landscapes at the nature area near the Sabine River or searched out forest rimmed lakes and farms.  A red caboose near the AMTRAK station was a favorite subject as were street scenes, alleyways, and historic Victorian homes.

At five o’clock, we met at the Mineola League of the Arts building for wine, cheese, and an exhibit of the day’s work . There were around 100 paintings produced.  The League has transformed an old school into a multipurpose arts facility.  We filled two adjoining classrooms with paintings whose subject matter and treatment proved that creativity knows no bounds. I produced these 6 paintings and was awarded 1st place for “Mineola Grain Silos”

Dinner followed at Paredes Family Restaurant, a local legend with a Mexican/American buffet that left no appetite unfulfilled.  It was a fitting end to a memorable fall paint out in Mineola.  Margarita attended the dinner.

Day Three, June 3 2010

June 6, 2010

Day Three of the ECAA paint out, actually it is day six of the paint out. I missed days four and five. I showed up in Waxahachie around noon and stopped by the ECAA headquarters to check in and have a sandwich. The people in this town are so nice. I already knew I wanted to paint the grain silos at the railroad tracks. I called David Tripp and they joined me along with his friend Chris. Little did I know David’s painting will win best of show and my painting will win 1st honorable mention (5th place overall). The ECAA Paint Out of Historic Waxahachie Texas is a local event and does not exhibit the work locally or nationally.
